Ordinarily it is black and white that dominates the spillage on the page here at Oncatography. There are exceptions to that rule of thumb, of course. Today the above fascinating examples were spotted during a shopping expedition (culinary research mission) at a local Asian market. There was something wonderful about the 'retro' look of the cans and the vibrancy of the labels that begged for a photo. A tabletop photo session followed upon arriving back at home base. Photography is hungry-making work!

A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Show...

Okay, now that I have finally accomplished something, and have taken the time to take some time for another update on this here desert that is my photo blog, let me fill you in.

Did I mention that I have the good fortune to be in an exhibition in December? Yeah, I lucked into it, through the good graces of a new friend, and I am pretty excited about it. I have eight pieces that were accepted, and I just spent a good chunk of this fine Sunday matting and framing the prints. Now my back hurts, and I feel like I passed a kidney stone...

...but I am pleased. Very pleased. Aside from a near-crippling spate of self-doubt, the day went well. The prints look great in the frames, they are signed and dated, and ready to hang.

As am I. *heehee*

I jest, but figuratively I do feel like I am about to hang. Maybe it is a relatively small step forward, but never have I been so far out there regarding my artistic life. I feel exposed, but I feel ready.

A journey of a thosuand miles, dear readers, and I have taken the first single step. Wish me luck.

Submitted For Your Approval...

Yes, I'm here. I know, I've been gone a long time. I regret my absence.

It's the Stuff. And the Things. They get up in my grille, and I forget to water my roots. I wonder if there is a cure for this affliction. Perhaps the limiting of distractions would help. My mind is a pond, and the rocks they keep plunging in.

Ahhh. Sorry. I digress, and don't mean to bore you with my crow thoughts. What I really wanted to say was that I do have news. Interesting news. Whether good or not-so-good remains to be seen.

See? I did it again! Sorry.

The story is I am finally submitting some of my photography works to an exhibition, here in Kansas City, Missouri, at a local art gallery. Through luck, timing and the good graces of a new friend I was nudged into doing it. I recently finished the final edit of my submission set of eight pieces, all of which will be reviewed by the curator for approval and thus inclusion into the show.

Eight pieces, out of an original set of about 66 photos. The editing process was tiring and more stressful than I imagined something like it would be. It was a first for me, and I hope to have many more opportunities.

So...I have submitted my pieces. Now, I wait to hear if any get approved for the exhibition. Wish me luck, if you please. I'll let you know as soon as I hear the final word. In the meantime, I include a lagniappe for you, an image that did not make my final cut, but pleased me all the same. It has a working title, but I'm open to suggestions. Enjoy!
